Staff Team

Senior Minister

Andrew started leading the team at Christchurch in September 2009. He is passionate about building healthy churches, where people with no church background can explore and meet Jesus, and take ‘next steps’ in their spiritual journey towards being a wholehearted follower of Christ! He loves teaching the timeless truths of God’s Word in ways that are culturally relevant and applicable to daily living.

He is married to Lorraine and has three boys. Ask him why he runs the Great South Run whenever he can and why he still supports Portsmouth FC!

Associate Minister

Simon joined the staff team in August 2014. He oversees various ministry areas, including Alpha, Serving, and Communication, and supports Andrew in the overall leadership of the church. He gets excited when people with no connection to church take steps towards God, and is passionate about communicating the good news of Jesus in creative ways.  He is married to Sam, and they have three little smashers. He loves cycling but wishes there were more mountains in this area!

Youth Ministry Leader

Beckah has been a youth worker since 2013 and still hasn’t won a game of Fifa! She joined the Christchurch family in 2017 having moved from London to Welwyn Garden City with her husband Dave. Beckah is passionate about young people knowing their worth and value and loves seeing young people showcase their gifts and talents. Her reputation as the ‘Pizza Queen’ goes before her and she manages to find any excuse to have pizza at a youth event.

Parish Nurse

Barbara works one day a week, usually Tuesdays, as a Parish Nurse. She is happy to chat to any who attend church or church events about their own health, or the health of others they care for or are concerned about. Her desire is to help individuals stay physically, mentally and spiritually healthy and equipped to deal with illness or disability. She can help you to access appropriate services or find helpful information.

She is a registered nurse, so follows the Nursing & Midwifery Council Code of Practice, and is very careful to maintain confidentiality at all times. She is linked to Parish Nursing Ministries UK (

Catherine started attending Christchurch through its youthwork and started regularly attending as a teenager.
She has been working in the office since 2005 and having lived in WGC since a toddler, she is often called the 'fount of all knowledge' - a term she doesn't shirk from by making sure she knows what is going on at all times!

Pastors Administrator

Wangari has been attending Christchurch since 2010, having moved to Welwyn Garden City in 2009 with her husband Sal who plays in the worship band at Parkway. Wangari has one daughter and three grandchildren. She is passionate about sewing and designing bags and hopes to start workshops for young children and adults who want to learn to sew. She joined the Staff Team in March 2017 as part-time Pastors Administrator. Wangari’s experience as an administrator spans over 20 years with 5 years for World Vision International in Kenya, Ivory Coast and Germany and 23 years with SOAS University of London.

Interim Enabler for Children & Families

Sam joined in 2020 as a temporary, part-time enabler for the church's work with children. She makes sure that the midweek and Sunday groups for children have all of the resources and information they need. She has lived in Welwyn Garden City since 2016 when she joined the church with her husband Jon and two children. Sam also serves on the Parkway local team, as the lead at Peartree tots and with children's work on Sunday mornings. She loves all things craft and doesn't believe a person can ever have too much yarn.

Stefan started working for the church on his birthday in August 2012, and he is thankful to the Lord for the opportunity to look after the church's property. His engagement gives him a greater chance to get to know Christ and make Him known to the others. Stefan loves playing the guitar and learning new worship songs.
