What we believe
The best way to understand and learn about any community is to experience it on the relational level. Statements of faith can tell you what a community of faith’s beliefs are, but they can’t tell you who they are, and what they are like. If you’d like to discover who we are at Christchurch, please come to one of our gatherings on Sundays. Alternatively if you want to find out more about the Christian faith, then please sign up for our next Alpha course.
What do we believe about God?
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). This means that God exists in perfect community, in relationship, hence our believe that God is love. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became a human being to save the lost world. He perfectly shows us what God is like.
What do we believe about the Bible?
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that people were moved by the Spirit to record the words of Scripture. It is trustworthy and true in all it affirms.
What do we believe about People?
We believe that people were created in the image of God to have relationship with Him, but are alienated from that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of coming back into a right relationship with God by their own effort.
What do we believe about restoring people’s relationship with God?
We believe that what Jesus Christ did, by dying on the cross, is the only basis for the forgiveness of sins. Our relationship with God is not restored by good works, or by keeping the rules, but by God’s gift of salvation to us. Therefore, A person is only saved when they place their faith in Jesus, who died to pay the price of their sin, and rose to life again to prove it.
What do we believe about the Christian life?
We believe that Christians should live for Jesus Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God, and daily living in step with the Holy Spirit, every believer will mature and become more like Jesus.
What do we believe about the church?
We believe that the church is the body of Christ and that Jesus Christ is the Head. People who live by faith in Jesus are part of the church. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by the quality of their lives and by making Him known to other people.
What we believe about the future?
We believe that though we live in an imperfect world at the moment, all who trust in Jesus have a great hope for the future. We believe that Jesus will return to establish a new heaven and a new earth, which will be a perfect home for all believers.
We belong to the Baptists Together and accept the Union’s ‘Declaration of Principle’.
We are also a member of the Evangelical Alliance and fully accept their Basis of Faith.
